The drive up to this place was crazy. Such an amazing experience, it was very safe and the room was spacious. The breakfast was also good. Would come here again, really enjoyed the little town,
Cost - this is one of the most affordable options in the cinque terra area HOWEVER there are reasons for this so just important to be conscious of that.
Staff - the staff were the only good thing about this hostel. They were very friendly and tried to help where possible.
Facilities - they are minimal. You often need to wait to use the bathroom. There is only one washing line and machine which often is in use. They list kitchen facilities but this is only a fridge and microwave. Otherwise you need to pay for their breakfast / dinners.
Food - do not waste your money on the breakfast. The eggs tasted like packet eggs that had been microwaved and on all mornings the toast had been sitting out so it was just cold cardboard. You do get coffee included which was a positive. Two mornings there was yoghurt and muesli and the final two mornings we were told they had run out of muesli so it was just yoghurt. Odd. The price of the dinner is comparable to restaurants in la spezia and the pizza place down the road so if you are into food I would highly recommend spending your money elsewhere; the food was just okay, but not a big enough portion and too expensive. Felt like the venue was confused about whether or not it is a hostel or a bar & restaurant.
Rooms - we paid for a private room which looked like a converted dorm so two single beds with four lockers. One window that you couldn’t open or close with no curtains. The room smelt horrible like body odour and the receptionist actually offered to change the mattress because we think that’s what smelt so gross. The slats on the bed were broken so the very thin mattress kept bending down into the cracks which made it very uncomfortable. You do need to make your own bed on arrival which I didn’t mind and the sheets and pillows appeared to be clean.
The weirdest thing of all was on the final night the couple who were staying and had paid for the private room next to ours came home and there had been two additional beds and people put in their private room. With no communication from the hostel as to who, what or why. They were a lot more chill about it than I would have been but I have stayed in a lot of hostels and have never experienced or heard of that before.
Location - Biassa itself is lovely and the views from the hostel are awesome, definitely it’s selling point. It was convenient enough to bus to and from Riomaggiore/La Spezia however this is definitely an added cost and factor when planning your stay; you are not walking distance from Cinque Terre.
I was here in January. I wanted to have some chill time away from the larger cities and booked for three nights that were paid in advance. When I arrived here I was sure I will get some peace as the place is super cozy, I was one of two guests and Paolo was really friendly.
Unfortunately I got the "chill" time of my life. The heaters are on all the time, but with the large ceilings all rooms are cold all the time. I put on all the clothes I had with me, took all available blankets in my room and put the mattress right next to the heater, still I was barely able to sleep all night.
Also you have to know that the busses here don't operate as much as in summer so to get to Cinque Terre you need to go back to La Spezia and drive by train. And they are not cooking dinner like it is advertised and just told me that after I booked (also the other two restaurants are in winter break). Therefore of course I booked a room in La Spezia for the next two nights and asked for a refund for those two nights.
The owner told me "If you are cold in Italy you will probaly have a fever, and we are not doing refunds". Also he threatened me after I posted a bad review...
Cristiano picked me up from the train station in La Spezia and shuttled me personally to Biassa! He also answered my annoying questions over WhatsApp throughout the time I was there- so helpful and chill! The other staff were also friendly. The hostel has a great view over the village, the rooms are clean, nice bathrooms, and the beer garden is lovely. Community vibes. The only thing lacking was a kitchen to cook your own meals, but the food at the hostel restaurant was delicious (Cristiano being a professional chef) and pretty reasonably priced considering the area. Cinque Terre is very easy to access by a bus that goes right by the hostel too. Had a great stay and would recommend to anyone looking for an alternative to rentals in the expensive coastal towns! Also sometimes a family of wild boars walks by at night! ❤🐗
Grazie mille!
I really loved here, in a small village but you can be complately safe and comportable.Staff were friendly, rooms and bathrooms were always clean. The biggest problem is probably the bus times, but i think it's also not so big deal. And there's also a tiny art gallery nearby.
There's a bus directly to Riomagiore, buy a day passes to avoid wasting time on buying tickets. 22: 45 is the last bus back to the hostel from Riomagiore. Great bedroom, gorgeous view.
Best little hostel, has a kitchen which serves breakfast for 5€ which includes a coffee. No a/c. Buses in summer to Cinque Terre.
I stayed here for four nights and I really enjoyed it. It’s in a beautiful village in the hills above La Spezia, still in reach of the nearby sights but not extremely close, but it’s such a beautiful location so it’s worth it. Great for starting hikes. The owner, Christiano, was super cool and helpful, along with the other staff. Good food. Loved the vibe and the people I met here.
